9-8-8: The New Suicide Prevention Hotline

On July 16th, the National Suicide Prevention Hotline phone number went from 10 digits to a 3-digit lifeline: 9-8-8.

According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, increase in outreach as seen a 45% increase.

The goal of the change is to make the phone number easy to remember and easily accessible. The new hotline provides 24/7, free and confidential support to people in suicidal crisis or emotional distress. The Lifeline helps thousands of people overcome crisis situations every day.
